Veterinary Assistant Program trains the student the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform in a veterinary office. The student will learn to provide nursing for animals under the direction of the veterinarian. In addition students learn all aspects of assisting in the operation of a veterinary practice; basics of first aid, anatomy, routine care, emergency care, surgical preparation and basic nursing techniques. They will also learn how animals communicate, animal behavior, training, breeding and the life cycles of young, adult, and older animals. They learn to Interact with animals and their owners, obtain animal health histories and records, assist the veterinarian with surgical procedures, recognize signs of illness and disease. Veterinary Assisting is a rewarding career in a growing field. As a Veterinary Assistant graduates work with animals and be a part of a professional veterinary staff. Students are also taught administrative duties, such as fee collection, banking, and accounts payable will be emphasized, and the student will learn basic information about pet insurance. Schools prepare students for this career through training and hands on training.
