Massage therapists use a number of massage therapy techniques to control pain, reduce stress, and promote relaxation and a sense of well-being in their clients. Working alone, or in consultation with other health care professionals (physiotherapists, physicians, chiropractors, and natural healers), they obtain medical histories, provide assessments and develop treatment plans for clients.
Massage therapy affects the circulatory, musculo-skeletal, immune, respiratory, nervous systems, and general well being of people. Some of the different types of massage include:
Craniosacral Therapy - A gentle, noninvasive manipulative technique, that encourages the body to heal it self.
Deep Tissue Massage - Used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles.
Shiatsu - Shiatsu is a traditional hands-on Japanese healing therapy. It can help in a wide range of conditions - from specific injuries to more general symptoms of poor health.
Swedish massage - Refers to a collection of techniques designed primarily to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart.
